Number of skeins needed:
Your Custom Mitten Pattern
note: The pattern that follows gives you the number of rounds available for decreases at the fingercap and thumb tip, but to get the number of stitches to decrease and how many stitches to leave before fastening off, you need to adjust according to the type of stitch you are working. (See Calculating Decreases at Mitten Tip, page 141.)
setup: Chain
, join to work in the round, being careful not to twist your chain.
Work in your stitch pattern for rounds.
thumb gusset: Increase times for thumb gusset over rounds, then skip stitches for thumb.
continue hand: Continue working rounds in pattern.
fingercap: Decrease over rounds for fingercap. (For the fingercap worked in single crochet, leave 6 to 8 stitches; for half double crochet, 8 to 10 stitches; and for double crochet, 10 to 12 stitches).
thumb: Pick up stitches around thumb gusset and work rounds.
Decrease for thumb tip. (For the thumb, leave about half the number of stitches used for the thumb circumference).
add-ons: Add any edge or border, being sure to include specific round-by-round directions for how to make them.
finish: Weave in ends and block.
