The yardage amount provided by the online calculator assumes that you are crocheting mid-calf-length socks. If you are working ankle socks or knee socks, or if you’re planning a border at the top of the socks, refer to Calculating Yardage for Cuff-Down Socks on page 186 for advice on how to adjust your formula.

setup: Chain . Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist your chain.
leg: Work in your stitch pattern for rounds.
heel flap: Work heel flap over sts for rows.
heel turn: Work paired decreases for heel turn over rows.
Work stitches, then pick up the remaining stitches after turning the heel.
gusset: Work paired decreases for gusset over rounds.
foot: Work stitches for foot for remaining foot length, minus 2 inches.
toe: Decrease stitches evenly distributed over rounds. Seam to close. note: If the number of decrease rounds for toe is less than , add some rounds without decreases; toes are about 2" long, so you need to make space for them.
add-ons: Add any edge, border, or ribbing you’d like to include at top of leg.
finishing: Weave in ends and block.
