Cherry Hill is an internationally known instructor and horse trainer and was a judge for several national breed organizations for over 25 years. She has taught university-level courses in horse management and training in the United States and Canada and has written more than 1000 articles for numerous horse publications. She is the recipient of many awards, including the 2002 American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Henry Bergh Children’s Book Honor for Horse Care for Kids. The ASPCA lauded Cherry’s “outstanding ability to teach young riders new ways to care for animals and the natural resources we all share.” The book also received a Third-Place Award that same year from American Horse Publications for Equine-Related writing. Cherry has been awarded several Colorado Authors League Top Hand Awards for both 101 Horsemanship and Equitation Patterns and 101 Arena Exercises. She was the recipient of the American Farrier’s Association’s Journalism Award in 1994 for Meritorious Service in collecting, educating, and presenting information of interest to Farriers. In 1992, American Horse Publications awarded Cherry with the first place award for editorial excellence in magazine writing.
Cherry is the author of a plethora of books helpful in the horse world, including 101 Arena Exercises, Horsekeeping on a Small Acreage, How to Think Like a Horse, Cherry Hill's Horse Care for Kids, Becoming an Effective Rider, Horse Handling and Grooming, Horse Health Care, Stablekeeping, Trailering Your Horse, Horse Hoof Care, 101 Horsemanship & Equitation Patterns, Equipping Your Horse Farm, and Cherry Hill’s Horsekeeping Almanac. Praise for her books is plentiful, including this rave from Horseman’s Yankee Pedlar, for Cherry Hill’s Horsekeeping Almanac: “ Never before have horse care guidelines been so easy to follow.” Horse and Rider agreed, saying, “This could be one of the most useful references in your horse care library. Prayer answered.” And Bookpage, guide for publishing insiders and booksellers, described it as “an indispensable resource for any new or aspiring horse owner.”
Horse Care for Kids garnered not only numerous awards, but praise from industry publications such as Western Horseman, who said, “Insightful pull quotes, stand-alone tips, scores of illustrations and a reader-friendly, eye-pleasing design make the volume an enjoyable read.”
Horsekeeping on a Small Acreage was reviewed in The Quarter Horse Journal, who included the savvy advice, “This book could save you thousands by helping you do it right the first time,” and also in Horseman’s Yankee Pedlar, who agreed, adding, “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, and her name is Cherry Hill. She is an award-winning author of more than twenty books and one thousand articles for various horse publications, and her offerings are thorough, thoughtful and easy to understand and implement.”
Hill’s iconic How To Think Like a Horse received universal praise, including this from The Gaited Horse, “Nothing short of a lifetime of observing horses firsthand compares to the education of horse behavior in this book. It is pure gold.”
Cherry has also authored Storey's popular Arena Pocket Guides, six handy ring-side manuals teaching successive English and Western skills. These series titles are: Beginning English Exercises, Intermediate English Exercises, Advanced English Exercises, Beginning Western Exercises, Intermediate Western Exercises, and Advanced Western Exercises.
