Sue Weaver sold her first freelance article to The Western Horseman in 1969. Since then she's marketed material to most major horse periodicals including The Western Horseman, Horse Illustrated, and Chronicle of the Horse; quality regional and specialty equine publications such as Flying Changes, Horseman's Market, Arabian Horse Times, The Appaloosa News, The Quarter Horse Journal, Horse'n Around, and The Brayer; and the now-defunct newsstand monthlies Horse Lovers Magazine, Horseman, Northeast Horseman, and Horse of Course.

Charni Lewis

In 2002, Charni Lewis joined the list of Flintridge trainers and instructors. Charni has been studying Dressage since 1998. Prior to her tenure at Flintridge, Charni was on staff at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona as their English equitation instructor teaching horsemanship and guest lecturing in a variety of classes, including Equine Physiology and Equine Management. In addition to riding instruction, Charni worked at Cal Poly Pomona’s Equine Research Center assisting professors and veterinarians in equine physiology research. She has co-authored several papers which have been published in scientific journals and presented at international conferences.

Charni’s diverse horse career began with American Saddlebred horses in 1977. Riding and showing as a juvenile progressed to breaking, training and teaching riding lessons, while also handling horses at Thoroughbred racehorse auctions in California and Kentucky. These two horse pursuits ran in parallel for over twenty years, complimented by a variety of work experience; working on Thoroughbred breeding farms, working as an equine veterinary assistant, studying Western riding, training and trail, leading the educational pack trips in the High Sierra, completing a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business Management, and eventually studying Dressage at Flintridge Riding Club.

In addition to traditional riding and equine management ventures, Charni has choreographed, produced and performed in riding exhibitions in the United States and abroad. In preparation for a performance in the closing ceremonies of the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, Charni worked with a trick horse trainer teaching ten horses to rear on command and walk on their hind legs. Dr. N. Bruce Haynes

Educator and author Dr. N. Bruce Haynes was in private veterinary practice for many years and was a Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine faculty member from 1965 until he retired in 1979. With over 40 years of hands-on gardening experience, Dick is a highly respected author and teacher.

Author Bertha Reppert was the founder and owner of The Rosemary House, Inc., a well known herb and spice shop located in Pennsylvania, since 1968. Her book, Growing Your Herb Business was based on more than 25 years of experience at The Rosemary House purveying herbs and spices, and it captures her dream of turning a hobby into a profitable business.

Bertha was an instructor for an Herbs 101 course at a Pennsylvania Community College, a contributing editor to The Herb Quarterly, and contributing writer for The New York Times and Rodal’s Organic Gardening. She was the first honorary member of the Heartland Herb Society Group, a member of the Herb Society of America, President Emeritus of the Penn-Cumberland Garden Club, and life member of the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania, among many others. After she retired, Bertha wrote, taught, and lectured on her experience.

Louise Riotte

Louise Riotte was a life-long gardener and author of 12 books on gardening, companion planting, and garden lore, including the best-selling Carrots Love Tomatoes, with more than 600,000 copies in print. Raised by a father how practiced astrology,and a mother who was a practicing herbalist, louise incorporated much of this knowledge into her books, including Roses Love Garlic, Astrological Gardening, Sleeping with a Sunflower, Catfish Ponds & Lily Pads, and Raising Animals by the Moon. Her own line drawings are included in all her books. Riotte took pride in her garden near her home in Ardmore, Oklahoma, which her son, Eugene, helped care for in her later years. She died in 1998 at the age of 89.

Laura Marie Donnelly Bethmann

Laura Donnelly Bethmann is an artist who sells her watercolor paintings, nature prints, drawings, and calligraphy through interior designers, galleries and art shows. Her work appears in corporate and private collections throughout the Northeastern United States, as well as in London and Paris.Laura is primarily self-taught and has been self-employed since 1982. Laura presents demonstrations and workshops on nature printing at garden centers, women's clubs, museums, art organizations and college art departments. Laura is an active member of The Nature Printing Society in Santa Barbara, California. She lives and works in her home studio in New Jersey.

Colleen K. Dodt

Colleen K. Dodt has been an herbalist and aromatherapist for more than 25 years. She is the owner of Herbal Endeavors, Ltd., in Rochester Hills, Michigan. In 1988, Colleen became the first American and the first woman to write for The International Journal of Aromatherapy, a prestigious British trade publication edited by Robert Tisserand, one of Britain's foremost experts on herbs and essential oils. Howard Choy

Howard Choy was born in China and grew up in Sydney, Australia, where he studied to become an architect. As well as practicing as an architect and feng shui consultant, Howard teaches and conducts seminars in Switzerland, Germany, and Australia. He also writes a monthly magazine column on feng shui.

Su Chin Ee

Su Chin Ee was born in Singapore and obtained a B.A. in art and design at St. Martin's School of Art and an M.A. in textile and fabric design from the Royal College of Art. After a successful career as a textile designer, Su Chin Ee began to study the Eastern tradition of bonsai. Fascinated by the little-practiced art of penjing, she has developed one of the best collections of bonsai and penjing landscapes outside China. These she grows and sells from her nursery in Kent, England.

A gold medal winner at the prestigious R.H.S. Chelsea Flower Show in England, Su Chin Ee is now an official judge for the bonsai category at the flower show. Gale Birutta is a llama breeder and owner of Made in Vermont Llamas, owner and guide of Northeast Kingdom Llama Expeditions, and developer of the Guardian Llama Placement Program, which utilizes llamas as guards for sheep, goats, poultry, and other livestock. Gale also spends her time at a video production studio in Barre, Vermont, where her first production was a 13-week diversified agriculture series. She has arranged with the UVM Extension to produce two Across the Fence programs on guard llamas and llamas in general, as well as Vermont ETV's Points North.

Gale was also previously certified as a police officer from the Morris County Police Academy in New Jersey, where she was born and raised. Stephen Cresswell is a history professor at West Virginia Wesleyan College and an avid homebrewer of beers and soft drinks, which accounts for his extensive research on historical recipes and old fashioned brewing techniques found in his book, Homemade Root Beer, Soda, & Pop.

Karen Levine

Casey Makela

Casey Makela is the owner of Killmaster Soap & Woolen Works, a gift shop and direct mail business. Besides raising dairy goats, Casey has written articles for various animal husbandry periodicals. She resides in Michigan.

Patricia J. Storer

Popular author of Your Puppy, Your Dog, Pat Storer has designed her book to guide both parents and children on the care of their furry family addition. She has trained dogs in herding, carting, weight pull, obedience, tracking, and schutzhund (protection). Additionally, she has been the leader of 4-H groups in domestic and animal sciences for many years. She is a member of the American Rottweiler Club, founded the Houston Area Rottweiler Fanciers, and was a former officer of each affiliation.

Not only is she experienced with upbringing man's best friend — she also raises two breeds of AKC dogs — but Pat has owned an exotic animal ranch for over 25 years. Using this experience, she has been writing freelance articles and handbooks on various exotic animals for over 15 years. Pat has lectured on exotic animals and birds, and dog training and temperament at numerous expositions, sales club meetings and Purdue University. She currently lives in Texas.

Randy Kidd

Randy Kidd, DVM, Ph.D., practiced traditional veterinary medicine for more than 10 years before he began incorporating homeopathy and herbal medicine into his practice. He served as president of the American Holistic Veterinary Medicine Association and is a consultant to several pet supplement companies. Randy maintains holistic veterinary practices in Kansas and in the San Francisco Bay area.

John Langstaff

John Langstaff was known internationally for his gift for unlocking any child's innate musical ability. He was the founder of the original Christmas Revels in 1971 and devoted his life to promoting music education and enjoyment, especially for children. He died in 2005.

Judy Richter

Judy Richter is a nationally known instructor, a member of the board of directors of USA Equestrian, a licensed “R” judge, and a columnist for The Chronicle of the Horse. She lives on a farm in New York.

Lyn Herrick

Lyn Herrick writes the nationally syndicated "Ask Mrs. Fix-it" column and also provides do-it-yourself information via the Internet. Herrick has been a carpenter, theater lighting technician, "handy-person," ski patroller, and golf course groundskeeper. She has written Storey's The Woman's Hands-On Home Repair Guide and lives in Massachusetts.

Nancy M. Booth

Nancy M. Booth is the author of the popular natural health and beauty book, Perfumes, Splashes & Colognes. However, Nancy is also busy spending her time as owner and operator of Gingham ‘n Spice, Ltd., a wholesale and retail fragrance and country gift business. She has been selling dried herbs, potpourri, fragrance, essential oils and other similar items internationally since 1980. Nancy teaches classes in perfumery and lives in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

Porter Shimer

Porter Shimer is the author of five books on health and fitness, including Storey's Keeping Fitness Simple and Too Busy To Exercise. His articles have appeared in Prevention, Men's Health, Reader's Digest, and Ladies Home Journal. Greta Breedlove

Greta Breedlove is an herbalist and teacher. She has conducted classes and workshops at colleges, camps and garden clubs, including Berkshire Community College, Red Mill School, Hudson Valley Community College and the Berkshire Botanical Gardens. She has also been the director of the Abode Herb Garden in New Lebanon, New York, where she managed all aspects of the business, including supervising staff, herbal education and programs. She lives in New York state.

Jan Dawson

Jan Dawson was the owner and operator of Golondrina Stables and Training Center in Texas where she offered boarding, riding lessons and horse training. She trained riders and horses in hunt seat, western and dressage until she retired in 1995 to devote her time to horse showing. She teaches clinics to riders and instructors across the United States, teaches safety seminars and certifies riding instructors. The techniques she uses to instruct her students are also visible in her book, Teaching Safe Horsemanship.

Practical Horseman gave Dawson's book much praise: "Every instructor [should] get a copy. [It is] a terrific presentation of what safe horsemanship is, why it's important, how to achieve it, and what happens if you don't learn it." Carole B. Turner is a freelance writer and horticultural consultant specializing in gardening techniques and native planting. Helen Hiebert

Helen Hiebert is a noted papermaker and artist. Sheserved as Program Director at Dieu Donne Papermill in New York City for five years, and has taught papermaking workshops at Dieu Donne, the Women's Studio Workshop, the Horticultural Society of New York, and the New York Botanical Garden. Her paper creations have been featured in gallery exhibits across the country, and have appeared in House & Garden and Country Living magazines She has a studio at Oblation Papers & Press in Portland, Oregon, where she lives.

Joyce A. Wardwell

Herbal educator and speaker Joyce A. Wardwell has been studying herbal medicine and wild edibles for over 20 years. René Laubach

Husband-and-wife authors René and Christyna Laubach stand for preserving wildlife habitats and helping others reconnect with their surrounding environments. Christyna Laubach is a high school science teacher and science/health department chair. Rene Laubach has served as Director of the Massachusetts Audobon Society's Berkshire Wildlife Sanctuaries since 1985. The Laubach's live in Massachusetts. David Stiles

David earned a bachelor degree in industrial design from Pratt Institute, and is a designer, builder, architectural renderer, and writer and illustrator. He is a member of the Friends of the Society of Illustrators.

James E. Long

Co-owner of Long Creek Herb Farm in Arkansas, Jim Long is also an herbalist, author, landscape designer, and syndicated gardening columnist. Rosemary McCreary grew up in an Illinois family of market gardeners. Today she lives north of San Francisco, where in the company of deer and other wildlife she tries to limit her ever-expanding garden to two acres. She shares her knowledge of botany and horticulture by volunteer teaching throughout northern California and in her weekly garden column in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.
